Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Need a suggestion from the 80s

Hello friends- Every once in a while I really like a show from '84-'88 period. Where else can I turn for a suggestion? Please leave your thoughts on a good quality recording for me. There are two shows from the period that are already burned into my memory- 6/25/85 (ever hear that one?) and the MSG show from 87 with the La Bamba and Good Lovin sequence. Other than those, please enlighten me with your favorites.

If you haven't heard this '82 one yet from the birthplace of our poet laureate Eddie Poe, tho it's slightly earlier than your perameters;
try it on for size - The Raven Space is a hoot!

pat - here's a hot one for you, I used to have a tape of this one way back when, haven't listened to this show in years. The Sugaree alone will eliminate the need for any caffine in your day! Have a good one!

For AUD the quality is excellent IMO. I was listening to the MP3 VBR I burned to CD in my car the other day and the quality really stood out. I hadn't listened to this show in 3 or 4 months and realized I need to put it in regular rotation.

Pat try 3-27-87. Lots of really good stuff in there. Plus an east coast vibe on the jerry comeback tour helps as well. I am in agreement on most of the other selctions the folks have mentioned for this post so you should be set.

I agree with Hi Roller about the Augusta 84' show. I would offer East Coast sprig 87'. Start with the Hartford shows then Philly,Centrum,Meadowlands and U.I.C. Chicago for a beefy sweet run.

ok dead boys, here's "a show from '84-'88 period" that'll put hair on your fingernails.

Includes a fine version of "Mona" with a "Cobra" jam mid-way thru.

This is half of QMS - John Cipollina on gtr and Greg Elmore on skins.

Includes Who Do You Love and Pride Of Man.

At the Chi-Chi Club, 1984.

I'm looking for the mid-'80s Chi-Chi Chip show (it's on the archive) that has a stellar version of Who Do You Love
that has all the parts heard on Happy Trails - which required and got (unsolicited) rhythm clapping from the audience.
I was there!

When I find it, I'll post that too.

Here's one that has exceptionally good sound - a sbd, from 1985 at the Chi Chi:

Great Who Do You Love, also has Pride Of Man (but no Mona).

here's the one where the audience added the clapping just like on the legendary Happy Trails (live) lp by Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Rock On, John!

A fine aud. tape from the Chi-Chi Club 2 days before Xmas, 1983 - Thunder & Lightning's 1st show of many at that venue in the mid-'80s.

I was at this one.

Really fun show with the uniqueness that was '85 (different song selection than most years). Philly shows were always fun.
